The summer months are typically slower in the studio, I am a work-at-home Mom with two little rascals and this fall will be the first school year both of my kiddos will be attending full-day school.
In just a few weeks I will be transition from part-time to full-time hours – queue the happy dance because I am so excited to offer more sessions for my current clients and schedule shoots for new clients as well!
Here is a quick look back at the projects I had the chance to work on in June and July. There were a few other product shoots that took place but I need to keep them under wraps until those business launch their new products. One of the many things I like about my job is being one of the first people to se products before they launch!
Take it n’ Leave it
I love working with Kim from Take it n’ Leave it, this Calgary based small business creates apparel suited for all the fur-parents out there. In addition to coming up with super cute designs they also donate a portion of their sales to local animal rescues and shelters. Early in June I offered lilac themed mini session for my current clients, and I was excited to see a request to book from Take it n’ Leave it. For this mini she included their new Hello World signs that are super cute, and my favourite Be a Good Human T-shirt in 3 colour options.
Jaybee Design
Jaclyn from Jaybee Design is always thinking in advance, we meet once a year to book all of the sessions she needs in our calendars so I was surprised to see her email booking an enexpected product mini session. She needed an extra session because she designed 3 new greeting cards based on my product session ideas! How cool is that?! She designed a new peony themed card, a lilac and a Saskatoon berry card.
I also snuck in a few images for a product her other company Collab did in collaboration with Sweet as Candy Bath. I was thankful to be gifted these bath bombs following the session and the rascals LOVED them! Each bath bomb fizzes into a colourful surprise.
Friday Sock Co.
I really enjoyed planning and executing this styled product photoshoot. The main focus was to provide images of Friday Sock Co.’s new Athletic Socks as well as new content for the classic mismatched socks to be used on their website, social channels and newsletter.
I can now attest that the new athletic line is so so good. I am a runner at heart and I can be pretty picky about what I put between my foot and my sneaker – these feel like clouds on my feet. I have happily completed multiple runs and indoor workouts wearing these socks and will be recommending them to all my active friends.
The second part of this shoot was to capture new website and social content for the classic purposefully mismatched socks. For this session I wanted to step outside the box, so I brought sand into my kitchen to create a beach set up, I rode my bike to a park, I asked the kids to model the socks while jumping – these are the kinds of sessions I truly enjoy but they do take more time to achieve.
Natura Soy Candles
Let me be the first to tell you that every single candle from this collection smells absolutely amazing! Colleen, the owner of Natura Soy requested a garden themed shoot to take place in my kitchen and I was glad to make it happen in time for the launch. Natura Soy provided the plants that complimented the ingredients of the candles and I utilized the other props I had on hand. The candles from this collection feature a herbal seed paper that I also wanted to highlight.
Collab: Subscription Boxes
At the beginning of August Collab launched subscription boxes featuring products from local makers and artisans. If you have enjoyed a visit to the Collab storefront or website I think you’ll also enjoy this subscription box! I’m already looking forward to seeing what will be included in the next one.
Collab: One Year Anniversary
Every few months I have the opportunity to visit the Collab YYC storefront in Southcentre Mall to take photos of the new products being featured. Collab provides the opportunity for local makers and artisans to consign their products in the Collab storefront and on their website for a three month period. For this photoshoot it also happened to be the first year anniversary for the store! What an accomplishment to say they launched during and survived a lockdown.
Jaybee Design
No joke, not in the last post but the one before that I said I was running out of things to say about Jaybee Designs because they are included in every blog post to date but the truth is I never run out of things to say about Jaybee Design!
This styled product session was to highlight a line of collaboration cards with another local Calgary based small business, Inspired Findings, as well as new card designs for Jaybee.
In addition to what I shared above I also worked on two styled product sessions for Oxeye Floral Co., one in June and one in August, for products that will be released later this year. Hopefully I’ll remember to share them once they have launched 🙂
